Eye Painting-
Acrylic on Canvas
30.48 cm x 30.48 cm
September 2015
This is the sketch from my fish drawing but I used it as the planning sketch for my painting too. It was helpful to use both for reference when sketching it out on to the canvas.
I was experimenting with the colors I had made up. 1-5 are the basic colors that I used for the base and then added black or brown to darken it which can be seen in a and d. In parts where it was darker I had to used 1 which is a mixture of a dark green, black, and brown then use 2 which is more black added with 1 to make it appear darker. Where I made it lighter in b and c I used non-mixed colors such as white in b which was 5 to make it transition into a lighter shade. In c I used 3 which is a mixture of brown, orange, red, and yellow the I began to blend in yellow for the lighter effect. On some parts of the painting, it would not take the color making it difficult to layer and blend the colors.
In g once again I used 4 as the base and blended in 5 to make it darker. F is where I took straight white as the base and made a mixture of black and white to create a light grey to use for adding shading. In g it is the same concept but I tried to show how I used it to have a curved blend.
Just like my drawing I used the same artist and cultural reference, but in the painting I made the drawing turn into color.
